Your vote counts — primary election races result in two recounts

On Friday, August 29 the Duval County Supervisor of Elections canvassing board examined ballots for two races in the primary election. According to Florida election law, the Duval County Election Canvassing Board had to visually inspect ballots to determine if voters registered for a candidate without filling in the oval-shaped bubbles next to candidates' names. It's common to have lower voter turnout during the primary elections.

In the Florida House District 15 Jay Fant-Paul Renner race for the Republican nomination, a machine recount determined that Fant had a three-vote lead. After the visual inspection by the canvassing board, it was determined that Fant lead by two votes.
In the Duval County School Board District 2 race, Scott Shine will head a runoff election in November but a recount was needed to determine who would face him in the run off. Sam Hall and Theresa Graham had to go through a machine recount and visual inspection as well. Afterwards, Hall finished with 2,449 votes to Graham's 2,445.
According to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office, here's a breakdown of voter turnout:

31.39% of ballots were cast by mail

16.39% of ballots were cast during Early Voting

51.88% of ballots were cast on Election Day
