Transformational leadership and change in Duval

Leaving the welcome reception for Dr. Greene, Duval County Public Schools’ new superintendent, I felt inspired and excited for Jacksonville’s future. The audience listened to Dr. Greene describe her “Team Duval” approach to involving the community in leading DCPS to become an “A” district.
“We’re not fighting one opponent. The opponent we’re fighting is poverty, it’s gang violence, it’s negativity, it’s drugs in our schools,” she said.
As Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) commits to working harder than ever to improve the quality of our schools and to serve as a voice for needed change, we know this journey will be difficult but is entirely achievable. To ensure excellent outcomes for all students, we agree with Dr. Greene that the entire community must come together to prioritize education.
Here are a few opportunities for you to get involved:
Become a Parent Who Leads. Leadership at all levels is a necessary component of achieving this vision. Parents Who Lead is a program that teaches parents and caregivers who want to improve the lifelong health, safety and learning of children how to become change agents. Apply for Parents Who Lead by August 3 to join other parents and caregivers making a big difference in Duval County!
VOTE for Duval School Board. The Duval County School Board leads the 125,000 plus students in our public schools. Election season is upon us, and three school board seats are on the ballot. We want you to know where your candidates stand so that you can make an informed decision when you vote. JPEF will be hosting a series of virtual forums so that you can hear the candidates’ positions on important issues as well as learn more about how they want to impact Duval County Public Schools.
