Duval County School Board requests additional data to assist with superintendent search

10/26/2017

Strong district leadership has the potential to transform education opportunities for students, thereby strengthening the foundation upon which our community stands. In an effort to support Duval’s search for a new superintendent, we provided the Duval County School Board with a compilation of data on the most recent superintendent searches in the nation’s thirty largest school districts.

Upon receipt of this information, Board Member Becki Couch, District 6, requested a deeper dive relating to the tenure of past superintendents in these districts. Earlier today, we gave Board Chair Paula Wright, District 4, and Board Member Warren Jones, District 5, copies of the updated database, along with our key findings in advance of their meeting tomorrow to develop a Request for Proposal that will be sent to prospective superintendent search firms.

An informed community is a powerful community, so we are sharing the same database with you. Click on the image below to access the contents.

In its meeting Oct. 17, the school board set dates for upcoming community meetings where they will seek public input on the superintendent search. Community meetings will be held on the following dates (likely at Raines, Terry Parker, Atlantic Coast and Ed White, although the locations have not been finalized):

  • Nov. 6 -- location TBD
  • Nov. 8 -- location TBD
  • Nov. 13 -- location TBD
  • Nov. 16 -- location TBD

We encourage you to attend and voice your opinions about the characteristics Duval County Schools needs in its next superintendent. We will post information about these meetings as it becomes available from the Duval County School Board so check our Superintendent Search page for updates
