First School Board Candidate Academy introduces school board candidates to Duval’s opportunities for improving public education

Today Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) hosted the first ever School Board Candidate Academy with the goal of building the capacity of aspiring Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) board members. Close to 100 parents, students, teachers and retired board members convened to share their aspirations and experiences navigating the issues that affect our public school system.

In the two years since Marshall was recognized at the EDDY Awards, she has been invited to participate in the Teacher Roundtable and serve on the steering committee for the initiative. She said participating in these two initiatives helped her build and express confidence and empowered her to embrace leadership at her school.

Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) President Trey Csar will step aside later this summer after more than nine years of leadership of the education advocacy organization. Rachael Tutwiler Fortune, JPEF’s current Executive Vice President, will serve as Interim President, as the organization’s board of directors develops a plan for long-term leadership at the organization.
